Uplands Golf Club Dinner and Cultural Evening with Mountainside Films
Wednesday April 18, 2018: 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
What better way to travel the world than to settle back in the comfort of the Uplands dining room, and see thoughtfully chosen excerpts from award-winning films?
Join us for an evening with Michael Parfit and Suzanne Chisholm of Mountainside Films. Their work exploring the human experience and the natural world has taken them to every continent – from the Australian outback to the cloud forests of the Andes to the refugee camps of Africa to the icy outposts of Antarctica and Greenland.
Those of us who live in greater Victoria may know them best for “The Whale” (originally released as “Saving Luna”). This film recounts the story of the lost little Orca of Nootka Sound who swam into the international spotlight in 2001 and elicited vastly different responses from all who encountered him. Just last year they documented the Belugas of the St. Lawrence for CBC’s “The Nature of Things,” using drone-mounted cameras to capture stunning images of Beluga pods navigating the Arctic ocean.
Their work has been shown in theatres across Canada, in IMAX theatres worldwide, on PBS, BBC, CNN, CBC, National Geographic Channel, France 2, and NHK (Japanese national television), and in film festivals in more than 20 countries. Located just outside the town of Sidney, the company has earned international recognition, including being named to Realscreen magazine’s Global 100 list, a compilation of the most influential production companies in the world.
