Let’s go Fishing, Reconciling Competing Demands for Access to the Marine Ecosystem

Join us for this informative Zoom talk on

Tuesday March 16 @ 12:00 – 1:00 pm (PST)

Our marine environment, once thought to have an unlimited adaptive capacity, is facing both natural and anthropomorphic stress.

Gerry Kristianson identifies himself as a “fisheries politician”. His career was as “a political scientist by training, a sometime diplomat and sometime lobbyist” who, since retirement 25 years ago, has devoted his time “almost exclusively to fisheries issues”. Kristianson is currently Chair of the federal government’s west coast Sport Fishing Advisory Board and has represented Canada on both the Pacific Salmon Commission and North Pacific Anadromous Fish Commission as well as a number of other boards.

Gerry’s presentation will focus on the challenges we face in understanding and reconciling competing demands of recreational and commercial access to a marine environment.

This event will be presented via Zoom. Registration details will be available on the Canadian Club of Victoria’s website and on Facebook on March 1, 2021.
