Daniel Lapp: “BC and the World’s Newest Old-Time Fiddle Tradition”
September 20, 2018 @ 11:45 am - 1:30 pm
The Canadian Club of Victoria’s 2018/2019 luncheon series will get off to an uplifting start with special guest speaker Daniel Lapp. A world-renowned musician, Daniel Lapp is beloved in Victoria for his trademark energy and warmth. As a fiddler, jazz trumpeter and singer/songwriter, he has played on over 100 albums and has performed across Canada and around the world.
A legendary force in Canada’s fiddle scene, in 2014 he was appointed as the inaugural Artistic Director of the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s new Chwyl Family School of Contemporary Music.
For this special luncheon, Daniel Lapp will bring to life the stories of pioneers who came to settle in BC in the 1950s, bringing with them a “new fiddle tradition” which has grown to include more than one thousand indigenous compositions by over 100 fiddlers – most of whom Daniel knows and has collected. It’s also to be hoped that he will bring his fiddle to this very special luncheon.
The luncheon is open to the public. Reservations are required by September 17
